Central Florida Bass Fishing Report June 2022 Winter Haven Lake Kissimmee Camp Mack

Well it’s now June and the kids are out of school, families are on vacation down here in Central Florida and this is one of the best times of the year to enjoy our World-Class Bass Fishing. This is a great time to get the kids out for a morning on the lake and still back at the hotel or condo in time to go hit the beaches or theme parks.
In Winter Haven on the South Chain of Lakes it we will be having so much fun catching fish on both artificial and live baits. We fish out of a 23’ bay boat which gives us the ability to troll shiners giving them “swimming lessons” over the deeper grass lines while people who wish to fish artificial baits are able to do so at the bow of the boat. Our MinnKota iPilot allows us to do that with guests.
Our favorite baits this time of year include topwaters, flukes, swimjigs & swimbaits, plus you have to throw a crankbait around the grasslines and through the big schools of bait that are all over the lakes. Because we fish the spring fed lakes primarily we use natural color baits in the watermelon reds, pearls, a “good” green pumpkin blue combo, or your favorite, they all work very well.
When we are fishing out of Camp Mack, A Guy Harvey Lodge, Marina & RV Resort on Lake Kissimmee and the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes we’re all about that morning bite. There is nothing better than idling out of the old river channel at Mack out to the canal and hitting the throttle running the river while the sun is still just behind the trees, then sitting down to idle and sneak up on our first fish. No matter how many times I make that run and those turns off the points, I always expect to see Chief Osceola sitting on a stump as we pass by....
Out here we normally start the day with a couple of options. I love having a “bigger” 5”-7” topwater plug in gold for when the bass are busting shiners. When they are feeding off of a shad spawn then I prefer a smaller white bait, but that’s just me. We’ll always have swimbaits in a variety of sizes from 4” white or gold, to the trusty Gambler EZ Swimmer. Out here, I will always have white or shad flukes tied-on, along with a black & blue senko, NEVER leave home without one when fishing on this chain. The frog bite along with the EZ Swimmer should be rolling for those that want to fish up in the jungle.

Winter Haven Bass Fishing Guide Service

We're seeing a lot of boats on the water lately acting as "local fishing guides" and we just want you to make sure that you are choosing the best trip possible for you or your family. All too often I will watch a "guide" sit in one spot for 4 to 6 hours straight waiting for a bass to take a shiner. Having done this for well over a decade and knowing these waters, that to me is unacceptable.
Some people wish to fish live bait solely, but most of our guests like to actually fish artificial baits while we have shines behind the boat as we work over the grass lines. Even the most diehard bass anglers will often opt to have shiners behind the boat just to have extra lines in the water.
We don't have the means for mass marketing that the larger online booking services have, but they also don't have the local intimate knowledge of the lakes. Before using BassOnline, or iOutdoors, or whomever, make sure you know what kind of guide you are hiring. Guide trips are not cheap and you work hard for your money to spend on a vacation, why not hire a guide that will work hard for you?!

Central Florida Bass Fishing Report May 2022 Winter Haven Lake Kissimmee Camp Mack

One of the things I love about fishing in Central Florida in May is that the lakes are not too hot yet, and the bass are out schooling chasing bait all over the place whether it’s on grass flats, deep water, or up in the jungle fishing in “the junk.” On most lakes from the Kissimmee Chain to the Winter Haven South Chain we can catch a lot of fish each trip along with quality big fish each time out. This is where all the fun starts because the fishing will be hot, hot, hot.
That being said, let’s start out of Camp Mack on the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes. As of right now the lakes are almost up to where they should be for May which means the fishing is still very good. The shad and shiners are spawning so that means plenty of extra bait fish for the bass to school up on. To you and I that translates to an awesome opportunity for catching a lot of bass on topwater baits. This year the bass have been more “selective” during the different bait fish spawns and stages from wanting bigger gold colored baits for chasing shiners to a silver or white smaller profile for the shad. It’s truly an occupational hazard to try to over analyze what a bass is doing but hey, that’s what I do. If you see bass chasing smaller bait, throw a smaller white/silver bait. If you see them running shiners, throw a bigger gold/black bait. Simple.
Heading back closer to the heart of Polk County and the Winter Haven South Chain it is still a big time summer pattern in the mornings, it’s just a slightly differ-ent pattern with different bait being the main forage. Here, white bait, shad, smaller glass minnows, whatever you want to call them are the main forage on a lot of the smaller spring-fed lakes. There are still some wild shiners in these wa-ters, along with tons of bluegill and specks but the bass mostly chase the min-nows and shad in the mornings.
I love having the original Pop-R, flukes, and smaller swimbaits tied-on for this time of year. You’ll see “wolf packs” just roaming around chasing bait to the sur-face and you can catch a ton of fish if you are patient and select your casts well. I’m normally fishing deeper in 8’ out to 20+ feet of water over grass this time of year and we catch a lot of good fish. Here on these lakes, keep your colors more natural if fishing the spring fed lakes and keep it bright or dark in the off colored waters.

Apparently the Winter Haven South Chain got tired of me talking about all of the big bass being caught out of Camp Mack on the Kissimmee Chain and she had to prove she still produces trophies! This 9lb 10oz Central Florida Trophy Bass was caught on one our "northern secret" baits that is a mainstay on the Great Lakes but rarely seen down here.
